3D tour for an Airbnb or short-term rental listing
Airbnb and most booking platforms do not let you embed a 3D tour inside the listing itself, so the tour lives on your direct-booking site, in your pre-stay messages, and on your social profiles. It answers the guest's unspoken question, how big is this really, more honestly than wide-angle photos do. Film the unit staged exactly as a guest will find it, and keep personal items, keys, and any safe out of the frame.
Can I put a 3D tour on my Airbnb listing?
Not as an embed. Airbnb, Vrbo, and Booking.com listing pages accept photos, a description, and a limited set of fields; none of them accepts an iframe or a third-party interactive viewer. Some hosts paste a tour link into the description text. Airbnb's rules on external links in listings have changed over time and are enforced unevenly, so check the current policy before relying on it.
Where the tour does work:
- Your direct-booking website, if you have one. This is the strongest placement: a guest who is deciding between you and the platform listing sees something the platform cannot show.
- Pre-stay and enquiry messages, as a plain link. "Here is a walkthrough so you can see the layout" is a normal thing to send.
- Instagram, TikTok, and Google Business Profile, as a link in bio or a post.
- Email signatures and inquiry replies.
What does a 3D tour do that photos do not?
Photos of rentals are shot wide, bright, and from the corner that flatters the room. Guests know this. A walkable tour shows the distance between the bed and the wall, how the kitchen connects to the living area, whether the "second bedroom" is a room or an alcove. That is information, not persuasion.
Whether it changes booking behaviour is not something we can tell you. VOLUME has no customer data to cite and the booking platforms do not publish it. What is reasonable to say is that fewer surprises at check-in means fewer complaints, and a tour removes a class of surprise. See do 3D tours help listings? for the honest state of the evidence.
How should I film a furnished rental?
Stage it exactly as a guest will find it. Beds made, towels out, nothing on the counters that will not be there at check-in. A tour that shows the unit better than reality is a tour that creates the complaint you were trying to avoid.
Then follow the usual rules. Every lamp on, blinds at one height, a slow continuous walk, no panning. Small units are easy: a studio takes about 90 seconds. Walk from the entry, through the main space, into the bathroom, back out to the balcony if there is one. The shot guide is short and covers the rest.
Film the exterior approach separately if it matters: the building entrance, the hallway to the door. Guests use it to find the place, and it is a different tour.
What should stay out of the frame?
Anything you would not want a stranger to see or know the location of.
- Keys, lockboxes, and the code pad for the door.
- The safe, if there is one, and anything inside open closets.
- Personal photos, mail, documents, prescriptions.
- Router labels with the Wi-Fi password printed on them.
- Views that identify the exact building, if you prefer guests not to know the address until booking.
A splat reproduces what the camera saw in three dimensions. There is no blur tool after the fact on VOLUME, so remove items before you walk. Privacy and 3D tours covers this in more depth.
How many tours does a multi-unit host need?
One per distinct unit. Identical units in the same building can share a tour if they really are identical, including the view and the furniture; otherwise a guest will notice. A host with three to five units fits the Solo plan at $99 a month for five tours. A manager with a dozen or more fits Team at $299 a month for twenty, with three seats for the people who do the walking.
VOLUME gives every tour a shareable URL and an iframe snippet, so it drops straight onto a direct-booking site built on Squarespace, Webflow, WordPress, or anything that accepts an iframe. The URL works as a plain link in a message or bio. Tours can be password-protected if you only want confirmed guests to see them. There is no booking integration; VOLUME is the walkthrough, your platform is the booking.
Questions people ask
- Does Airbnb have its own 3D tour feature?
- Not a walkable one as of this writing. Platform features change; check the host dashboard for the current options.
- Can guests see my name on the tour?
- Only on the branded link. The unbranded link shows the property and nothing else.
